WHY WE OFFER THIS SERVICE?

At the heart of April Nites is the belief that everyone deserves a healthy sex life. Sexual rights are fundamental to human dignity, health, and well-being. However, individuals living with disabilities often encounter unique challenges in achieving this due to a combination of physical, psychological, and societal barriers.

SOME KEY FACTORS INCLUDE:

  • + PHYSICAL CHALLENGES
    • Mobility and physical challenges: Disabilities affecting mobility or strength can make certain activities more difficult or uncomfortable. For example, individuals with spinal cord injuries may experience changes in physical function that impact their overall comfort and experience
    • Chronic Pain or Fatigue: Conditions like fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, or other chronic illnesses can cause pain or fatigue, making certain activities less comfortable or more challenging.
  • + SOCIAL STIGMA AND MISCONCEPTIONS
    • Stereotyping: Society often assumes that people with disabilities are not interested in or capable of pursuing meaningful relationships. This can affect self-esteem and limit opportunities for personal growth and connection.
    • Negative Attitudes and Bias: Partners, healthcare providers, or even family members may harbor misconceptions that disabled people are asexual or uninterested in relationships, which can create barriers to healthy sexual expression.
  • + LIMITED ACCESS TO SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATION AND RESOURCES
    • Inadequate Education: People with disabilities may receive less comprehensive education on relationships and personal well-being, leaving them without the knowledge or resources needed to explore these aspects safely and confidently.
    • Healthcare Provider Discomfort or Lack of Training: Some healthcare providers are uncomfortable discussing sexual health with disabled individuals or lack training on how to address their specific needs. As a result, essential conversations about sexual wellbeing and aids may be overlooked.

After receiving numerous requests from disability service providers to host our sexual wellness parties for their clients, we recognized a significant need for tailored events that cater to the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals living with a wide range of disabilities.

WHAT WE OFFER?

Freedom to Feel Parties provide individuals with disabilities a welcoming space to explore sexual health and well-being. These events offer hands-on opportunities to learn how to adapt and enjoy various resources, experience them firsthand, ask questions to knowledgeable consultants, and engage in a discreet, supportive, and inclusive environment free from judgment.

Our consultants, who host the Freedom to Feel Parties, are specially trained to support individuals with disabilities. You can trust that they are equipped to assist clients with understanding and care.

The Freedom to Feel Party is both educational and entertaining, featuring a variety of games to serve as ice-breakers, helping guests feel relaxed and open. It’s designed to be a delightful addition to clients' social calendars.

WHO WE ARE

April Nites was established in 2008 by Gemma Goswami, driven by her passion for creating a welcoming environment where women can explore sexual wellness education without inhibition. Armed with a Master of Arts Honours in French and Hispanic Studies and a Master of Secondary Teaching, Gemma’s background in education significantly influenced her mission. Recognizing a gap in options tailored to women’s needs, she launched April Nites to provide meaningful education and resources. Since then, the company has blossomed into a prominent name in the industry, now featuring over 600 consultants throughout Australia. April Nites is committed to fostering open discussion and education about sexual wellbeing, making it more accepted and accessible.
